MCU & firmware
The microcontroller runs the firmware that reads inputs, processes them and communicates with the host. Firmware determines how those tasks are scheduled.
Inside a keyboard
The controller scans the switch matrix, applies processing such as debounce, maps keys and sends reports. Scanning speed and report frequency describe different stages.
What to compare
Look for firmware support, update instructions and the supported features of the complete product. A processor’s clock frequency alone does not establish input latency.
