Keyboard layout & key mapping
Physical key arrangement, printed legends and the operating system’s language layout are separate parts of the typing experience.
Physical and logical layout
A compact keyboard changes which keys are directly available. Firmware layers can give one physical key several functions. The operating system interprets the received keycodes using its selected layout.
Before choosing
Check the actual key diagram, language legends, Enter and Shift shapes, navigation keys and function-layer instructions. A key count alone does not describe all layout differences.
