Coatings & surface finishes

A surface finish changes how a peripheral feels, looks, and wears. The finish can come from the mold texture or from a treatment applied after manufacturing.

What to compare

Ask for the substrate, finish process, gloss, texture and wear-test conditions. A matte surface may be molded texture, paint or another applied finish. Its appearance alone does not identify the process.

In a specification

Record coating and substrate separately. Skin oils, cleaning chemicals and repeated contact can affect surfaces differently. A durability claim needs a stated test method and acceptance criterion.
